Why has the Government only just made some concrete proposals to support the British steel industry? They don't like to say it (because they are pro-European Union) but EU restrictions on state aid make it very difficult to intervene. This is fair enough, except that many other EU countries, notably France, simply ignore the rules.
Frankly, I don't know enough about the steel industry to know whether it is possible to save it. What I do know is that it faces unfair competition, not primarily from China but from our 'partners' in the Eurpoean Union. Brexit here I come!
